4. Text Description of Project-
In this project I have taken apart and examined the inside components of a mechanical pencil, which is a process called reverse engineering. When disassembling the mechanical pencil I had to focus on these three aspects of reverse engineering: visual analysis, functional analysis, and structural analysis.
5. Visual Analysis-
The texture of the mechanical pencil is a smooth plastic, which makes it appear more ergonomic. The pencil has a clear plastic surrounding the plastic piece holding the led, which makes the space of the pencil appear empty and transparent.
The tip of the pencil radially revolves around the hole where the led exits the pencil. There is emphasis placed on the “clip” of the pencil, which is to show that it can be clipped to a surface that will hold it.
6. Functional Analysis-
When observing the function of the pencil it appears fairly simplistic, and it truly is. There is a spring placed between the longer black plastic piece and longer clear plastic piece, and its purpose is to push back the black plastic piece when pushed down. Once the long black plastic piece is pushed down pressure on a part holding the led is released, which in turn causes the led to come out of the pencil.
